Management Team

Jonathan Boyd Underland – Managing Director & Co-Founder
Jon is a co-Founder of BMES and has been in Japan’s Executive Search industry for over 11 years. His network extends from Silicon Valley to the Asia Pacific region and he has assisted over 50 companies enter and build their operations in Asia Pac. Although much of his recruitment work has been focused on venture-funded start-up companies in the network and telecommunications space, Jon also has extensive experience working with enterprise SW and SI firms of all sizes. He has been invited and selected by global organizations such as NTT Communications and Huawei to help drive major business initiatives requiring critical in-time hiring of senior talent.
When not working on developing and promoting BMES’ human resource solutions and methodologies, Jon engages in senior-level search activities and management of BMES’ Key Accounts team.
Jon was originally born in Japan and returned to the United States when he was 6 years old. He returned to Japan after university and has been living in Tokyo for the past 18 years, and resides with his Japanese wife and 4 children. On weekends he engages in the following activities with his wife, 4 children, and a few of his neighbors: basketball, volleyball, skateboarding, badminton, barbecuing, and chasing his youngest kids around the front yard.

Tony Moore – Managing Director & Co-Founder
Tony is one of the two founders of BMES. In addition to leading a 30+ member sales force, Tony is responsible for BMES’ strategic direction, business development initiatives and operations and directly oversees the company’s Technology search practice. Tony remains highly active in search, maintaining a diverse range of clients within the Technology arena and focusing on executive level roles within Japan and throughout Asia. He has been an executive search professional in Japan since 1999 and is consistently selected as “search partner of choice” in competition against other global firms.
Originally from London, UK, Tony started his career as a Project Manager and then Account Manager for European and US software companies. Prior to co-founding BMES in January, 2002, Tony was promoted to the level of Associate Vice-President with a Japanese search firm, where he also successfully completed numerous executive-level placements, including Country Manager, Vice-President and Director level roles.
Tony graduated from Oxford University with a Master’s degree in Modern History. He is an active member of the Japan-British society and the Tokyo American Club. Tony also plays and participates in a broad range of sports from football to wakeboarding, squash to snowboarding.

Jonas Korbstein – General Manager, India
Jonas joined BMES in early 2005 and currently heads up BMES’ India Business Operations, dividing his time between the Tokyo and Pune offices. Through effective management and efficient process implementation, Jonas has been a major driving force behind BMES’ streamlined service delivery. His main recruitment efforts are focused on HR, Finance, Software, and Telecommunications for Japan, India and the APAC markets.
Starting out his recruitment career in the technology sector, Jonas focused mainly on the Mobile & Software spaces. His successful track record included placing a range of professionals from Country Managers to Specialist Engineers into many MNCs. By the end of only his second year at BMES, Jonas was given the Top Consultant award for the year.
A degree holder in International Management, Jonas has consistently been a key player in BMES’ expansion and innovation efforts. After building up a solid reputation for filling back office roles, he created and managed the Professional Services Division. This new business group covered HR and Finance, which he quickly developed into a fully fledged Commerce Division. Jonas came to Japan in 2003 where he worked with German automotive brand Mercedes-Benz in organizational development.

Yan Vermeulen – Director, Chemical & Industrial | Semiconductor & Electronics
Yan has been with Boyd & Moore since 2006 and was the key person to start up the Semiconductor & Electronics and Industrial & Chemical practices. His main focus is on executive and senior management searches for Japan and Asia-Pacific. He is currently based in our Singapore office, where he is heading Boyd & Moore’s expansion in the region.
Yan maintains strong relationships with Fortune 500 as well as start-up companies in Asia and Japan. He previously worked for ASML, a Nasdaq-listed semiconductor equipment company, where he focused on strategic marketing for Japanese customers. His network of industry professionals includes a wealth of mid to senior level country and regional executives. Yan’s recent track record includes successful introductions for local Country Manager and APAC Regional Director searches in sales, engineering and marketing. He is a repeated vendor-of-choice for all his clients.
Yan graduated with a Business Management degree from Rotterdam University as well as a Japanese degree from Kansai Gaidai University in Osaka. In addition to his native Dutch, he speaks fluent English and business level Japanese and German.

Scott Wallace – Director, Life Sciences | Professional Services
Scott is an executive search consultant specializing in the Japan and Asia Professional Services sector since 2006. Though he leads both the Professional Services and Life Sciences Practices, his main focus is on senior level searches in the Finance & Accounting (F&A) and Human Resources (HR) industries.
Scott maintains strong relationships with fortune 500 companies of varied industries in Japan and around APAC. He provides market entry support for a multitude of sectors and his industry network includes multilingual and internationally experienced professionals at all levels of HR and F&A.
Scott’s track record of placements includes successful introductions for Senior positions in HR and F&A. He focuses on VP and C-level to Manager level roles in large, medium to small sized companies in addition to Market Entries. Specific positions that Scott regularly works in Finance are: Chief Financial Officer, Controller, Accounting Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis, and Auditors. HR positions are: Vice President, Senior Director, HR/General Affairs Director, Business Partner, and HR Specialist roles.
Scott has built up a keen awareness of culture and business acumen during his twelve years in Asia. Specifically, ten years of this time has been focused on Japan and the Japanese market where he has helped numerous jobseekers realize their own potential and, at the same time, fulfill his clients’ human capital needs efficiently and effectively.

Rafael Babikov – Director, Technology
Rafael is an executive search consultant specializing in the Japan and Asia technology industries since 2006. His area of focus includes digital media, e-commerce, AdSales, mobile, advertising, online payment, technology transaction, p2p technology, gaming (console, mobile and social), online and video content sectors.
Rafael maintains strong client relationships with start-up, mid-sized and global fortune 500 technology companies in Japan and around APAC. He is consistently selected as the preferred vendor of choice to execute the most challenging of search assignments. Rafael also provides market entry support for a multitude of sectors and his industry network boasts a wealth of experienced multilingual professionals at all organizational levels.
Rafael’s recent track record includes successful introductions for: Country Manager for Japan and Korea, APAC VP of Sales, Senior Sales Manager, Mobile Marketing Manager, Head of Business Development (e-commerce), Senior Customer Relationship Manager and Mobile Project Manager.
Rafael holds both MA and BA degrees in International Relations from Waseda University, Japan and University of World Economy & Diplomacy, Uzbekistan respectively. A multilingual professional, Rafael speaks native Russian and English and is competent at a Business level in Japanese.

Ben Burrell – Director, Asia
An experienced Executive Search professional with over 15 years experience, including the last 10+ years living and managing Search businesses in Asia, Ben works within our Technology practice. Ben's typical appointments include President, Senior Vice President, Director and Senior Managers for large MNCs and Fast Growing startups, and in countries like China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and Australia. Ben also leads our ExecutiveAccessClub (EAC) performance unit. The EAC is dedicated to equipping leading Senior Executives with additional strategic resources and a competitive edge; a private team is allocated to each Senior Executive and provides ongoing calibrated data, talent intelligence, succession planning, risk and advisory services and more.

Norbert Kiss – Director, Asia
Norbert works on key projects and initiatives across our Technology practice. An accomplished leader with experience as a General Manager, Vice President, and President within Lexmark, Geac, Oracle, Watchguard, and Astaro. Norbert has spent over 18 years living in Singapore, Korea and Hong Kong managing Technology companies across Asia. In 2007 Norbert Founded Asia Entry, a Singapore-based Investment company specializing in assisting venture-funded Technology companies successfully build and grow their operations in Asia. His most recent effort includes a successful joint venture partnership with Astaro - a leading German network security company. Under Norbert's leadership, Astaro became one of Asia's fastest growing Security vendors with 9 consecutive quarters of 80%+ YoY growth across the region. Astaro successfully exited via acquisition by Sophos.

Geoff Curran – Director, Australia
Geoff leads our Australian Technology Executive Search team. As an experienced company director, Geoff brings a wealth of experience and judgment to BMES clients. Possessing over 20 years experience as a senior executive recruitment and search specialist in Australia, he previously held key appointments at Morgan & Banks and as a Shareholder and Director of Margot Davis & Co. In addition he founded Curran & Associates (1994), an executive recruitment business that continues to successfully operate across the spectrum of Sales and Service and the BPO sector. Geoff has a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Western Australia and is a member of the Recruitment and Consulting Services Association of Australia.
