Creating processes, together
Shalaka Mohite, Data Processing Executive
Shalaka who says there’s nothing like a good book, started her career as a training coordinator for new grads.
“In university I studied computer applications. But after finishing my master’s I couldn’t find a job that truly excited me. So, I decided to look outside of the IT industry and ended up at a global training company. I worked on projects for big international companies. We taught mainly soft skills and business fundamentals to very young folks who had just graduated from university. It was a quite interesting.
However, after a while I felt that I needed a change in environment. So, I quit this position and joined a networking company. I was responsible for coordinating website projects and performance reports with local managers across more than 30 locations. This experience helped me improve my organization skills a lot. It was also the first time for me to handle big volumes of data.”
Her experience with data put Shalaka on the radar of a friend who was participating in the referral program of her company, the Boyd & Moore Intelligence Center (BMIC).
“A friend of mine introduced me to the BMIC. I hadn’t really heard of Boyd & Moore until then. I thought that they’d be similar to local Indian recruiting firms. But, when going through the application process, I learned that the company worked very differently from other local or even international agencies.
The most interesting part for me was the job I got offered. It was a stand-alone role for a completely new project. I was told that I would be working for one particular client using their data system and taking care of their database. That sounded exciting and I decided to give it a try.”
At the end of 2017 Shalaka joined the BMIC.
“There was a lot for me to learn, right from the beginning. First of all, it was a new project that we started from scratch. The client – a successful German MNC – who had outsourced some parts of their hiring process to us needed a person to help them take care of their database which included working on their devices and with their systems. That was a first for us.
We had to figure out how to approach everything on the go. There were no processes or templates in place that we could use so my first task was to set up the basic structures. It took me about a month. At the beginning I was concerned if I was the right fit for this challenge, but the client kept providing very positive feedback saying that they’re extremely happy with the smooth process which made me feel more confident.
In addition, I needed to learn a completely new system. Since I am working with the client’s data management system nobody in the BMIC could help me familiarize myself with it. That’s why the client agreed to train me which was a great opportunity for me to start communicating with the client while getting the technical knowledge I needed.”
While getting this new project started was certainly not an easy task, being able to challenge herself continuously is exactly what Shalaka enjoys most about working at the BMIC.
“It’s great that I am given the freedom and independence to try new things and define my way of working. I appreciate that I’ve been given the chance to be in charge of this important project and learn a lot by communicating directly with the client and working with a new system.
In addition, I get to know many different people across Asia which is not only very exciting but also helps me broaden my horizon in a way that wouldn’t be possible in a domestic company.
I strongly believe that I can only grow myself by pushing my boundaries every day at least a little bit. The BMIC helps me do exactly that. At the same time everybody including the Management is very supportive and friendly, so you never feel left alone or overwhelmed. It’s like a second home for me.”
The Onsite Hiring Process Management & Consulting team is always looking for people who enjoy working side-by-side with customers to improve their hiring processes. If that sounds like you, please check out our open positions.
