Financial firm gets committed CIO after having had 5 in 5 years

    The Client

A HK-based publicly listed multinational in the commodities and asset management space required a global CIO for a role occupied by 5 different people over the previous 5 years.

    The Challenge

The client approached us to find a global CIO with the ability to drive internal consensus to transform, modernize, and integrate their diverse IT infrastructure. The candidate should also be able to achieve this with limited budget.

Since there had been such turnover in the role over the last 5 years, there were multiple searches performed during that same period. The market was well aware of the the client’s issues in this regard. That’s why our challenge was to identify fresh candidates for the role without compromising the executive expertise and competencies required. The role was to be based out of either London or HK.

    Our Solution

Due to the nature of the industry and the legacy of this role, we decided that our search needed to pull from more locations globally.

We put together a team of 3 researchers to do the initial groundwork of identifying and grading all possible targets globally. Ultimately we approached candidates in North America, EMEA, Africa, South America and Asia.

Our final shortlist of 3 were located in London, Zurich and Port Moresby, PNG, respectively. The client was impressed with the process and the results of the search itself. They remain even more impressed with their selected candidate who is still in position 3 years later, successfully driving the transformation of their global IT operation.
