The client, a major global financial company, seeks an experienced external coach to deliver Executive Coaching and leadership behavioral changes in a flexible, practical way. Since July 2023, EpoCh has served as an Executive and Leadership Coach for a Japanese Sales functional leader identified as a future Japan Leadership member. The main tasks include:

To accompany him to identify root cases of his leadership behavioral style where there have been some communication issues and conflict between him and his functional members,
To create action plans to fix these communication issues,
To create self-awareness and behavioral changes flow in an agile and effective way,
To provide him with self-confidence and readiness to be a future Japan organizational influential leader in the coming years. These four tasks can be delivered on a bi-weekly basis.

Solution

EpoCh Leadership Coaching conducted 360-degree survey to relevant people around him (the coachee) and 1on1 meeting with his direct manager and some of his peers to identify the perspective facts and root causes of his leadership behavioral issues before starting 1st coaching session.

At the same time, EpoCh conducted Hogan Assessment to the coachee to see his ‘Reputation’ which means what everyone else around him thinks of him based on his overt behaviors and social skills as EpoCh is a certified Hogan Assessment and ICF (International Coaching Federation) coach too.
Based on all of 360-degree survey, Hogan Assessment results and insights from several 1on1 with people around the coachee, EpoCh can deliver more effective and tailored-made coaching to him in specific.
EpoCh Leadership Coaching co-worked with him to create 3 specific goals to be achieved in a 9-month coaching session and also to create concrete deliverable action plans with timelines to each goal and aligned with his direct manager, so that EpoCh always made all parties on the same page to make him unlock potential to be an impactful and influential leader.
As Executive and Leadership Coach of EpoCh has solid background of global organizational business leader for more than 10 years in some of the major multi-national companies, trust level from the coachee and the Client company are extremely high and he is always engaged and well-prepared with each coaching session. So that the relationship between the coach and the coachee has been well connected, and with utilizing super skills of active listening, effective questioning and timely feedback in each session, speed and quality of self-awareness from him and behavioral change have exceeded his and the Client’s expectations vs. the original timeline of action plans.

Challenges

One of the most challenges when the coaching is delivered is ‘chemistry’ matching between the coach and the coachee and expectation management between these two parties including the sponsors from The Client.

EpoCh Leadership Coaching brings solid experience in delivering various coaching styles—such as Executive Coaching, Leadership Coaching, Career Coaching, Business Coaching, and Behavioral Coaching—in a tailored way to meet each coachee’s unique situation and goals. With nearly 20 years of in-house HR experience, including over 10 years in HR leadership roles (such as Global CHRO and HR Director in several global companies), EpoCh excels in expectation management.

Before finalizing a contract, EpoCh carefully assesses the chemistry between the coach and the coachee. Upholding high integrity, EpoCh prioritizes a chemistry meeting before starting any engagement. Once both parties feel confident and comfortable moving forward, EpoCh formalizes the Coaching Agreement with the client. This approach ensures a smooth coaching experience, allowing challenges to be resolved in a healthy and effective manner.

Result

The Client had an annual organizational Engagement Survey in Feb/Mar 2024, and the total score of organizational engagement in his function has been increased by 15% vs. the results of the previous year, and especially the scores of the categories of ‘transparent communication’ and ‘inspiring leadership’ have been increased by almost 20%. His direct boss and HR teams were really surprised in a good way with his significant leadership behaviors changes in terms of both of his daily and real styles and scores of the annual survey.

Although the 9-month coaching engagement ended in April 2024, the coachee actively recommended EpoCh as an ongoing professional coaching partner to the client. They directly negotiated with the CHRO, leading to EpoCh’s re-assignment as an Executive and Leadership Coach for several potential future leaders. These new sessions will begin in July 2024, reinforcing EpoCh’s strong reputation, proven outcomes, and high-quality service over the past nine months.
